Tairua

If you are into fishing, diving and the outdoors, then welcome to paradise! There is no place quite like Tairua!

Staying in Tairua feels like a true escape!

Tairua is nestled underneath a craggy mountain range, with a harbour and the Pacific Ocean lapping at its shores. When you drive into Tairua you know you have arrived in paradise. With a permanent population of only 1000 people you will get a warm welcome from the locals.

Located less than two hours from Auckland International Airport, Tairua is conveniently placed for your New Zealand fishing charter.

Tairua is the closest point to the world class diving and fishing location of the Aldermen Islands and Aldermen Pins.  We are centrally located to explore Mayor Island to the South and the Mercury Islands to the North. Slipper Island lies a short ten minute boat ride from the marina.

We have a range of accommodation options and nice restaurants in town, and our local fishing club will always give you a warm welcome, especially if you have travelled from overseas.

For those travelling with a non fishing partner, we have hot springs, spas, yoga retreats, art galleries and plenty of other things to see and do all within a 30 minute radius north or south.

If you are travelling to Tairua from overseas, we suggest hiring a rental car at the airport to get down to Tairua, so you can have a good look around while you are not on the boat.

Tairua itself has a great surf beach within walking distance of town, a number of must do walks, including the walk to Paku summit and boats the site of NZ's oldest archaelogical find, a fishing lure bought to NZ by the first Polynesian settlers.

Here are a few recommended things to do on the Coromandel, either for your self in between your fishing trips, or for your non fishing partner.
